1968, Movie, NR, 100 mins

starstarstarstar
A theatrical version of the popular British TV series, which was the inspiration for the long-running "All in the Family" on US television. Basically plotless, the film follows the lives of a cockney family beginning during WW II. Mitchell, the model for "Archie Bunker," plays the racist, foul-mouthed, opinionated head of the house, constantly spouting his pearls of wisdom regarding politics, society, and religion. The film covers his marriage to Nichols; the birth of his daughter, Stubbs; her marriage to hippie-type Booth; and the family's eventual move from a London slum to the suburbs. Ray Davies of the British rock band the Kinks provides the title song. Worth a look, especially for "All in the Family" fans. leave a comment
