Fans of the athletic golden retriever will cheer this series entry, in which Buddy masters beach volleyball. Siblings Noah (Jake Smith) and Andrea Framm (Katija Pevec) regard the coming summer with different emotions. For Noah, warmer weather means more opportunities to practice outdoor tricks with Buddy. For Andrea, the end of the school year means losing her best pal, Tammy (Chantal Strand), who's moving to Southern California. Though they don't know it, their concerns pale next to the troubles that are about to be visited on the small town. Posing as plumbers, professional crooks Doug (Robert Tinkler) and Gordon (Malcolm Scott) intend to steal a priceless jewel on loan to the local museum. All they require is an accomplice small enough to fit through an air vent, and agile enough to navigate the security system's laser beams. When they spot Buddy strutting his stuff at an obstacle race in the park, they decide to nab the dog and train him as a jewel thief. Meanwhile, Andrea becomes a pet-sitter in order to raise enough money to visit Tammy, but her business is derailed by animal mutiny that ends with her charges wrecking a flea market. Fortunately, new next-door neighbor Connor (Tyler Boissonnault) tips Andrea off about a volleyball tournament. The winners get an all-expense paid trip to Malibu, which is just a hop, skip and a jump from where Tammy now lives. The naturally klutzy Andrea trains hard and Buddy proves sufficiently adept to join the struggling team. But when the thieves steal Buddy, it looks as though Andrea's team will be excluded from the finals. Recommended for families and for dog fanciers, this AIR BUD sequel never deviates from the series's formulaic blend of canine tricks and heart-warming life lessons. leave a comment --Robert Pardi
