Not to be confused with the stage biography of the great "Fats" Waller, this frothy musical has a likable cast and a gossamer-thin story. Piper Laurie plays Sarah Hatfield, a chorus girl who snags a wealthy businessman (Rory Calhoun), then decides to change her style and become snooty because she thinks that's what he wants in a wife. Unfortunately, her down-to-earth qualities attracted her husband in the first place, and he finds he can't deal with the new snob in his house. Finally, just before he strolls out, Sarah sees the light. Jack Carson does his usual good second-banana work. Sprightly tunes enliven the proceedings, including "Ain't Misbehavin"' (Fats Waller, Andy Razaf), "The Dixie Mambo" (Charles Henderson, Sonny Burke), "I Love That Rickey, Tickey, Tickey" (Sammy Cahn, Johnny Scott), and "A Little Love Can Go a Long Way" (Paul Francis Webster, Sammy Fain). leave a comment
