Jurgens plays Wernher von Braun, the German scientist who invented the V-2 rocket during WW II. The apolitical scientist is forced by the Nazis to create the rocket against his wishes. After the war he surrenders to the Americans and not the Soviets. Daly is an army major who is opposed to allowing Jurgens a new home in America because his family was killed by a V-2 rocket attack on London.
