After Tomorrow

This early talkie suffers from the growing pains of the sound era. At the beginning of that period, filmdom thought the only way to be effective was to present endless chatter, but by the time this film was released the public was weary of the dull plays imported from Broadway and England (the crisp diction in the latter supposedly prevented viewers from misunderstanding the words). AFTER TOMORROW deals with the hardships of a young man and woman who struggle to work and save so they can be married--a relevant plot for Depression-era Americans.
