Well-done love story has painter Darvas being rescued by Jaray (as the mysterious writer de Maupassant), while a mob of Parisian thugs swirls about her. He takes her home and then later to a fancy dress ball where she sees her teacher, Horbiger, who is jealous of her attentions from the writer whom he hates.
