1953, Movie, NR, 72 mins

Tame, youth-oriented film shows Reynolds, Van, Ruick, and Fosse as they enter their freshman year of college. The blossoming love, the escape from studies (much to the chagrin of stuffy teachers Conried and Lane), the stupid situations adolescents create, and the inadvertent blowing up of the chemistry lab are the highlights of this rather draggy production. It is momentarily brightened by such songs as "I'm Through with Love" by Van, "All I Do Is Dream of You" (Arthur Freed, Nacio Herb Brown) by Reynolds and Van as they paddle a canoe, and two song and dance numbers with Reynolds, Van, Ruick, and Fosse, "You Can't Do Wrong Doing Right" (Al Rinker, Floyd Huddlestone) and "Those Endearing Young Charms" (Matthew Locke, Thomas Moore). leave a comment
