Younger children should enjoy this brawny animated adventure, which owes a great deal to the STAR WARS series. After his treetop village is destroyed by a automaton airship named Nemeclous, Joshua (voice of James Arnold Taylor) is thrilled to be admitted to the Aero-School, whose two-year training program is geared to defending the sky-world against Nemeclous. Coached by a flying benefactor called Qyun ((Daran Norris), Joshua joins cadets like Mika (Quinton Flynn) in studying the history of the first race of humans born to the skies. Warming to the art of cloud travel, Joshua soon joins older trainees in a raid on a pirate aircraft. Unlike his peers, Joshua ambitiously embraces another aspect of stratospheric service: The Air Force. Smitten with teen pilot Nora (E. G. Daily), Joshua basks in the encouragement of her father, Nathaniel (Roger Rose), a mechanical genius. Having mastered the art of gravity-defying aero-flying, Joshua turns his attention to aerodynamics and rocket building. Joshua becomes the first aero-trooper and aero-pilot in the academy’s history, but Joshua's joy in his achievements is shattered by the discovery that Nathaniel, his mentor and surrogate father, created Nemeclous. Like Frankenstein's monster, Nathaniel's innovative, airborne contraption developed a mind of its own. Determined to rule the skies, Nemeclous kidnaps Nathaniel and forces him to bond with him, creating an invincible man-machine. Joshua must find a way to separate Nathaniel from the metal monster or kill them both for the safety of mankind. The film's computer generated animation is eye-catching, but writer-director-animator Terry Izumi lets the intersecting story lines meander and periodically stops them dead for inspirational pep talks. Kids will probably ignore the messages and focus on the thrilling aerial attacks. leave a comment --Robert Pardi
