A fast-paced, above-average programmer dealing with air force training, which Arlen narrates in flashback while recuperating in an Army hospital. He tells of his recruitment and training, his meeting with Morris, an antagonist from prewar days who turns out to be his training sergeant, and their mutual attempt to win the hand of Lita Ward, whose brother, Lydon (playing a wimp, as usual), develops a fear of flying and crashes his plane during exercises. The squadron then departs for the South Pacific, where Morris and Arlen land on an island and are trapped by occupying Japanese troops as they hurriedly attempt to repair their plane. Heroically, Morris stays behind, fighting off the enemy until Arlen can take off and fly to freedom. Tough portrayals and two-fisted action make this an excellent WW II propaganda film, the story line not dissimilar to Arlen's smash silent movie WINGS. leave a comment
