A taut script and sharp, witty dialogue make this, the second of the Basil Rathbone/Nigel Bruce Sherlock Holmes vehicles, one of the finest crime adventures ever made. Arch-villain Professor Moriarty (Zucco, in the first of many appearances as Holmes's chief nemesis) plots a grand theft by sidetracking Holmes (Rathbone) with two foul murders, one involving Ann Brandon (Lupino).
