Perfect for that discriminating five-year-old in your life, or any grown-up who still wonders what goes on deep inside Oscar's garbage can. Elmo — everyone's favorite baby-talking fuzzy red Sesame Street monster — finally gets his moment on the big screen, and he's a star. Three-year-old Elmo (voiced by Kevin Clash) learns a hard lesson in selfishness when his beloved blue blanket, which he refuses to share with his best friend Zoe (voiced by Fran Brill), winds up at the bottom of Oscar's trash can. Elmo jumps in after it and he and his "best friend" are sucked into a swirling, psychedelic vortex that pops him out in Grouchland — a stinky landfill where Grouches wash with cheese, get their fur matted at the ugly parlor and flock to see Sharon Groan in "Basically It Stinks." But the irritable grouches are nothing compared to the nefarious Huxley (Mandy Patinkin), a paragon of selfishness who hovers over Grouchland in his flying vacuum claiming everything he sucks up as his own — including Elmo's blanket. After an hour, it'll be hard for most adults to sustain much interest in the fate of a security blanket. But the music is surprisingly good, Vanessa Williams puts in a great cameo as the Queen of Trash and Ernie and Bert are on hand to provide periodic recaps just in case anyone's having trouble keeping up.
