A florid pioneer epic, this film offers Gable as a tough, calculating trapper who marries Marques (an accomplished Mexican film star) because she is the daughter of a powerful Blackfoot chief, Holt. (Gable thinks the hostile tribe will allow him into their territory to trap beaver for their
precious pelts.) Surviving Indian attacks, Marques leads Gable and company on a circuitous but safe route to the land of her people, where she gives birth to a child. By then Gable no longer treats her as a pawn but is in love with her, as devoted as his rugged nature will permit. He and his
