Sculptor Dix resists enlistment at the outbreak of WW I, his decision based on scruples but his fiancee, Allan, interprets his actions as cowardice and tells him so. Dix promptly joins a flying corps, goes to France, and becomes one of the most ruthless killers in the sky, bringing down countless German planes.
