Absence Of Malice

Gallagher (Paul Newman), the son of a dead mobster, runs a legitimate business in Miami, with his uncle (Luther Adler) his only connection to organized crime. A federal investigator (Bob Balaban) thinks Gallagher knows the details of a labor leader's disappearance, and leaks information to Megan (Sally Field), a reporter who writes a story implicating Gallagher. The story's publication brings tragic results, and Gallagher plots to get revenge.
