Absence Of Malice: Review

Paul Newman received a well-earned Oscar nomination for his portrayal of the son of a dead mobster who's wrongfully linked to the disappearance of a labor leader by an ambitious reporter (Sally Field). When her expose brings tragic results, he plots his revenge. Sydney Pollack's film is a solid, absorbing drama that, in profiling the damage that can result from investigative reporting, would make a great double-bill with All the President's Men.
