Bergman is exquisite as a young woman with a hideous scar on her face that she received in an accident as a child, and which has made her emotionally deadened, deeply bitter, and a criminal. A miraculous change in her personality takes place when plastic surgeon Henrikson successfully operates on her and her beauty becomes visible. But she is in love with Rydeberg, an aristocrat without a conscience, who wants to use her in a scheme to murder his nephew, Bernhard, and thus to become sole heir to the fortune of his father. Bergman is repelled by the idea, but, still in love with him, she takes a position as governess in the father's household to carry out the scheme. Her change of personality and character from an ugly, bitter woman to a woman of great beauty and nobility corresponding to her new physical features is superbly portrayed as Bergman refuses to carry out the plan and at the end shoots Rydeberg. Unusual story is first class from top to bottom. leave a comment
