War correspondent Gassman falls for singer Forti, talking her out of the nightclubs and into the opera house. When he becomes wounded during an Arab-Israeli conflict, she thinks he's forgotten about her. Old girl friend Dowling sees to it that Gassman's letters don't get through to
Forti. Decent performances can't overcome the plot's structural weakness or the unevenness of the script. Nonetheless, the opera sequences are of particular interest, featuring the legendary Italian tenor Beniamino Gigli. (In Italian; English subtitles.)
