A Touch Of Larceny: Review
This whimsical comedy features Mason as a rakehell former submarine captain who has transferred from active service to a desk job. His exploits under the sea and under the bed covers are well known to everyone, and when he meets old pal Sanders, his eyes pop at the sight of Sanders' fiancee, American widow Miles. Sanders is very rich, and it soon becomes evident to Mason that if he wants to get Miles's attention, he, too, must become wealthy, so he concocts a fantastic scheme to get rich quick. His plan is to appear to have defected, allow the scurrilous newpapers to besmirch his good name, then sue the pants off the press. Mason leaves a trail of what seems to be indications that he has sold out to the Russians, then arranges to get stranded on an uninhabitable island. He is rescued from the island and subjected to serious interrogation by the men of the Special Branch, but he manages to convince them that he is not a defector. Later, Mason arrives at Miles's residence, and the two are together when Sanders enters. Seeing that Mason and Miles are very much in love, Sanders does the decent thing by exiting. This charming, witty film is filled with delicious situations and
