Williams is a former soldier who convinces himself he has a fatal heart condition. He meets artist Hale, a young girl from the Midwest who's trying to make it in the Big Apple. He convinces some gangsters to insure him, collecting a fee and giving it to Hale. Of course, he's not going to
die and finds himself not only getting better, but falling for Hale as well. In the end the gangsters try to get back their money but are fooled by the tricky Williams. At times this is droll, but it often falls flat. Hale and Williams do have good chemistry, but the direction and script push too
