Edmund Rostand's play, "Cyrano de Bergerac," in olive drab. On the home front, Hunt writes a letter to an unknown WW II soldier and places it in the pocket of an army shirt later issued to Carroll, a hedonistic hero in uniform. Carroll, preferring his birds in the hand rather than in the bush, ignores the letter. His friend, scholarly soldier Cronyn, starts a correspondence with Hunt in Carroll's name, sending her a snapshot of his well-built buddy. Transferred to New York, Hunt's city, Cronyn strikes up a friendship with his patriotic pen pal who is now smitten with the missives she believes to have been written by Carroll. When the latter discovers Cronyn's secret, the lecherous lover-boy attempts to move in on Hunt. Naturally, all ends well. This was a remake of the 1922 silent film DON'T WRITE LETTERS. leave a comment
