Wolverine Wolfs Down $87 Million in Debut

Kicking off the summer box office in killer fashion, X-Men Origins: Wolverine raked in $87 million over the weekend to easily grab the No. 1 spot.
Though Wolverine's number falls short of the $102 million take by 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand, it is still the second biggest domestic debut for an X-Men flick.
Bowing way back in second place was Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, which reeled in $15.3 million. Last week's top earner, Obsessed, dropped to third with $12.2 million for a $47 million 10-day total.
Showing some strong legs, Zac Efron's 17 Again ($6.3 million) and animated romp Monsters vs. Aliens ($5.8 million) landed in fourth and fifth, respectively.
The weekend's other new release, the sci-fi film Battle for Terra, mustered $1.1 million for a 12th place debut.
Rounding out the top 10 were: The Soloist (No. 6, $5.6 million), Earth (No. 7, $4.18 million), Fighting (No. 8, $4.17 million), Hannah Montana The Movie (No. 9, $4 million) and State of Play (No. 10, $3.6 million).
