Following weeks of speculation and rumor, Dakota Fanning is officially confirmed to "vamp" it up in New Moon, the first big-screen sequel to Twilight.
Fanning, 15, has been cast as Jane, a rep for the filmmakers tells People. For the uninitiated (like old fogey me), Jane is described as "a sinister vampire with an angelic exterior who works for the Volturi."
Fanning's previous feature credits include War of the Worlds, Charlotte's Web and Hounddog, an otherwise negligible indie which netted a few headlines because Fanning's 'tween character was sexually assaulted.
Production on New Moon is slated to start later this month, with an eye on a November premiere. A second follow-up, Eclipse, already has been penciled in for a June 2010 release.
