Mickey Rourke Close to Clamping Down on Iron Man 2
Mickey Rourke and Sam Rockwell
Mickey Rourke could soon be going from wrestling to wrapping deadly coils around Tony Stark.
The recent Wrestler star is in talks to join Iron Man 2 as a Russian heavy weight who becomes Whiplash, a character with deadly coils he can unfurl with deadly results.
Sam Rockwell is also in talks to join the franchise's follow-up, according to the Hollywood Reporter. If a deal closes, the indie maven (Frost/Nixon, Snow Angels) would play Tony Stark's nemesis, multibillionaire Justin Hammer.
In addition to Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark/Iron Man), Iron Man 2 cast members also include Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle, who recently replaced Terrence Howard as Jim Rhodes, Stark's sidekick who becomes the hero War Machine. Still up for casting grabs is the role of Stark's assistant Natasha. (Note to casting chiefs: We're available).
The film is expected to start filming this spring, with a release date slated for May 7, 2010.
What do you think about the likely additions of Rourke and Rockwell? Who should play Natasha?
