The Roommate Moves Into No. 1 Spot at Box Office

The Roommate

The Roommate scared up the top spot at the box office over Super Bowl weekend, Box Office Mojo reports.

The psycho-thriller, starring Minka Kelly and Leighton Meester, grossed an estimated $15.6 million in its first weekend of release. The weekend's other new release, the James Cameron-produced thriller Sanctum, came in second with $9.2 million in box office receipts.

Despite getting panned by critics, the two films topped another overall slow weekend at the box office. It also was the least-attended Super Bowl weekend in 15 years.

The Rite leads slow box office weekend

The romantic comedy No Strings Attached, took the No. 3 spot in its third week of release, earning $8.4 million. The King's Speech was close behind, moving up to fourth place with $8.3 million.

Coming in at No. 5, The Green Hornet attracted $6.1 million. The Rite, last week's top grosser, followed with $5.5 million. The Mechanic ranked seventh, grossing $5.3 million.

Rounding out the top 10: True Grit (No. 8, $4.7 million, adding to its seven-week total of $155 million), The Dilemma (No. 9, $3.44 million) and Black Swan (No. 10, $3.4 million).
