Lord of the Rings mastermind Peter Jackson is in talks to direct the two-part prequel The Hobbit, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Guillermo del Toro drops out of The Hobbit
Jackson would replace Guillermo del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth, Blade II and the Hellboy films), who dropped out in May citing production delays.
The Hobbit's two parts are currently scheduled for release in December 2012 and December 2013, respectively.
