The Twilight Saga: New Moon raked in $140.7 million over its first three days, the third-biggest opening weekend ever, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The second movie in the Twilight series was unable to unseat the opening weekend record holders. The Dark Knight stands as No. 1 with $158.4 million, while Spider-Man 3 hangs on to the No. 2 slot with its $151.1 million opening weekend in 2007.
New Moon shatters midnight box office record
New Moon broke the opening day record with $72 million on Friday, previously held by The Dark Knight. Twilight debuted the same weekend last year, bringing in $69.6 million for its entire opening weekend
