Natalie Portman has been offered the lead role in Alfonso Cuaron's new film Gravity, the Hollywood Reporter writes.

Co-written by the Children of Men director and his son Jonas, Gravity tells the story of a woman stranded on a space station. Angelina Jolie recently dropped out of the film. Robert Downey Jr. has committed to a supporting role.
Gravity is set to begin filming at the end of January.

Portman next stars in Darren Aronofsky's psychological thriller Black Swan, which received critical praise at the Venice and Telluride film festivals and will hit theaters on Dec. 1.
