Debut of Third Narnia Film Leads Box Office

Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader led the box office in its opening weekend with $24.5 million, according to Box Office Mojo.

The opening of the third film in the Narnia franchise was significantly lower than the first two. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe bowed to $65.6 million, and Prince Caspian took in $55 million during its opening weekend.

The Tourist, starring Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp, debuted in second with $17 million.

Tangled, which unseated Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 last weekend for the No. 1 spot, fell to No. 3 with $14.6 million. The seventh film in the Potter series followed with $8.5 million; its total gross so far: nearly $258 million.

Next came Unstoppable and Black Swan with $3.75 million and $3.33 million, respectively.

Rounding out the top 10: Burlesque (No. 7, $3.2 million); Love and Other Drugs (No. 8, $3 million); Due Date (No. 9, $2.55 million); and Megamind (No. 10, $2.51 million).
