Michael Bay: Transformers 3 Coming in 2012

Paramount's announcement of a third Transformers movie targeted for 2011 was not only news to you, but news to Michael Bay as well. The director, who's currently completing work on the second flick in the franchise, says the tentative July, 1, 2011 date was an error on the studio's part.
"Paramount made a mistake in dating Transformers 3 — they asked me on the phone — I said yes to July 4 — but for 2012 — whoops! Not 2011!!!" Bay wrote on his official site. "That would mean I would have to start prep in September. No way. My brain needs a break from fighting robots."
Paramount did not announce anything beyond the release date. Neither Bay nor stars Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox are attached to the three-quel yet. A script has also yet to be written.
TVGuide.com's call was not immediately returned.
So what does it mean? Was it just a calendar gaffe?
Ponder that while you wait for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, which opens June 24.
