Longer Road Ahead for Viggo Mortensen Film

Viggo Mortensen and Kodi Smit-McPhee, The Road

Viggo Mortensen's new thriller, The Road, has a little more travelling to do before it make it to theaters.

The Weinstein Co. film was originally slated for limited release November 14, and wider release Nov. 26. Now, however, it may not arrive until December, or even next year.

The film is based on Cormac McCarthy's post-apocalyptic story about a father and son who traverse the newly bleak land, says the Reporter. Project insiders say that the film isn't close to being ready for primetime — or movie theaters.

Given last year's Oscar attention for both Mortensen (Eastern Promises) and McCarthy's tale, No Country for Old Men, there's an obvious push for a 2008 release. Yet, as one source said, "It may just not be feasible."
