The Karate Kid kicked and chopped its way to the No. 1 spot at the box office over the weekend, debuting with $56 million, according to Box Office Mojo.
The remake of the 1984 movie, starring Will Smith's son Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan, beat another vintage revisiting — the big-screen adaptation of the 1980s TV series The A-Team, which came in second with $26 million.

Coming in third: Shrek's Forever After, which earned $15.8 million — bringing its total to $210.1 million after holding the No. 1 spot at the box office for three weeks. Russell Brand's Get Him to the Greek followed in fourth position with $10.1 million, while Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl's Killers came in at No. 5 with $8.2 million.
Rounding out the top 10: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (No. 6, $6.6 million); Marmaduke (No. 7, $6 million); Sex and the City 2 (No. 8, $5.5 million); Iron Man 2 (No. 9, $4.5 million); and Splice (No. 10, $2.9 million).
