Does Hayden Panettiere have the fancy footwork and powerful pipes to trump Julianne Hough? Possibly.
The Heroes star has auditioned for the role of Ariel Moore — a part for which Dancing with the Stars' Hough is also reportedly being considered — in the musical remake of Footloose, E! reports. (Lori Singer played Ariel in the original film.)
Panettiere sang for director Kenny Ortega and filmmakers, who were "really impressed," a source says. The actress has dabbled in music before, recording tracks for various movie soundtracks. Should she land the role, Panettiere would be violating curfew opposite Gossip Girl hunk Chace Crawford, who's being pursued to play Ren McCormack after Zac Efron pulled out of the film.
TVGuide.com's calls to Panettiere's rep were not immediately returned.
