Dark Knight Director Chris Nolan Inks Deal for New, Non-Batman Movie

Christopher Nolan

Fans of Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan, get ready to rejoice. Batfans in general, you may be crying in your cowl.

Nolan has inked a deal with Warner Bros. to direct Inception, based on his own screenplay, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The bad news? This development delays any hope for a Dark Knight follow-up for at least a couple years.

A sci-fi action film, Inception is "set within the architecture of the mind." Nolan plans to begin shooting this summer, and the film should hit theaters by summer 2010, according to the studio.

Three years passed between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, during which time Nolan directed the battling-magicians drama The Prestige.

Are you excited for Nolan's new project? How long are you willing to wait for a Batsequel?
