Chace Crawford Steps into Footloose

Let's hear it for Chace Crawford! The Gossip Girl star has officially signed on to the Footloose remake.
Crawford had been in the running to inherit Kevin Bacon's Sunday shoes since Zac Efron dropped out to pursue non-musical parts in March. Crawford has been in contract negotiations to play dancing bad boy Ren McCormack for a while, but was struggling to make the film work around his Gossip schedule, Us Weekly reports.
High School Musical director Kenny Ortega will direct Footloose, which will start production in March 2010.
Other stars reported to have auditioned for a role are Hayden Panettiere and Dancing with the Stars' Julianne Hough.
