Aaron Sorkin, John Edwards

Aaron Sorkin intends to make his feature film directorial debut with a movie about former presidential candidate John Edwards.

The screenwriter has acquired rights to the The Politician, the tell-all book written by Edwards' one-time aide detailing the then-senator's extramarital affair with Rielle Hunter, according to Deadline.com.

"This is a firsthand account of an extraordinary story filled with motivations, decisions and consequences that would have lit Shakespeare up," Sorkin said in a statement to Deadline. "There is much more to Andrew's book than what has been reported and I am grateful that he's trusting me with it."

Sorkin will write the script and produce the film. He is the creator of TV series The West Wing, Sports Night and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. He most recently wrote the screenplay for David Fincher's The Social Network, which will be released in October.
