Charming, understated story of a love affair between two people who never meet. The "affair" begins in 1949 when Helene Hanff (Anne Bancroft), a struggling New York writer with a love of fine old books, responds to an ad placed by an antiquarian bookshop at 84 Charing Cross Road in London.
