"Color. That's it! Just add some color and our version will be even better than the original." That must be what the makers of this rather mundane spy thriller were thinking, forgetting that it was Hitchcock who made the original version of this John Buchan novel so brilliant. This is a remake in every sense of the term. Scene for scene, this version nearly duplicates the original. For that reason alone it can't be a bad movie, but it does remain uninspired and rather flat. More and Elg are the saving grace even though they pale in comparison to Donat and Carroll. Their coupling is engaging and fun, giving some good life to their respective roles. A third version followed in 1978. leave a comment
