The saying "Always a bridesmaid, never a bride" can be applied to Jane, a selfless friend that has been a bridesmaid 27 times, sometimes twice in one day. Imagine her surprise when her beautiful sister swoops into town and captures the heart of her boss, the man she's secretly in love with. The movie stars Katherine Heigl, Edward Burns, James Marsden and Malin Akerman.Guys aren't supposed to like "Romantic Comedies," we're supposed to like action movies - anything with explosions and fighting. Here's a secret... I don't mind them at all, but I won't admit that to my girlfriend. See, I have a system; I pretend not to like a romantic comedy so we'll watch an action movie next time, and then she's happy because she "won," and I'm happy because I can enjoy the romantic comedy, followed by an action movie. We both win! 27 Dresses was a movie that we both wanted to see in the theaters (I secretly wanted to see it, she kept talking about wanting to see it), but we missed it for whatever re...

Converting on months of Internet hype in the way Snakes on a Plane couldn't, Cloverfield topped the weekend box office with $41 million, besting Star Wars: Special Edition's 11-year-old record for a January debut. Already we've had at least one reader email us about needing to step out for an "illness" break during Cloverfield, thanks to the jittery camerawork. Katherine Heigl was beaming as she walked the red carpet Monday night for the premiere of her new feature comedy, 27 Dresses (in theaters Jan. 18). Also on hand for the first look were Grey's Anatomy cast mates Ellen Pompeo and T.R. Knight, as well as 27 "bridesmaids" in white dresses bearing info for the film. Heigl said her own bridesmaids wore something with a bit more color. "They were Oscar de la Renta little, short cocktail dresses, cranberry red, very Christmas-y," she said.Heigl told reporters she's wistful about her own De le Renta wedding dress, gushing, "I feel like I might just put it on to watch TV sometimes, because what else am I supposed to do with it?! It's so gorgeous. I never get to wear it again? That's sad." Of new husband Josh Kelley, she waxed poetic as well: "I look at him sometimes and think, 'Oh my god, you're mine.' That's pretty exciting." Bekah Wright

Fox has bumped the opening of the Katherine Heigl/James Marsden rom-com 27 Dresses from Jan. 11 to Jan. 18 (the first day of the MLK Jr holiday weekend), not because there is any problem with it but rather because sneak-preview showings have been so encouraging, as the studio explains. In addition, the new date makes it the obvious choice for filmgoers disinterested in the sci-fi thriller Cloverfield, the only other pic opening that weekend. So if 27 Dresses is as big a hit as they are predicting, I suspect that'll be the end of Izzie, don't you think? Would you stick around a TV show where you're, like, third banana if you were suddenly a bona fide movie star? Ben Katner

While Nic Cage's National Treasure: Book of Secrets repeated as the weekend box-office champ (taking in another $35.6 million, for a gross of $124 mil to date), the big story belonged to three furry little fellas. In its third week of release, Alvin & the Chipmunks seized the No. 2 spot from Will Smith with a $30 mil haul, and is now on pace to be one of the year's top-10 grossing pics. (Its tally stands at $142.4 mil.) Rounding out the weekend's top five were I Am Legend ($27.5 mil, $194.6 mil to date), Charlie Wilson's War (up 23 percent from last weekend, with $11.8 mil) and Juno (surging 201 percent in wider release, with $10.3 mil). Also this weekend, Katherine Heigl's 27 Dresses is said to have sneak-peeked extremely well, selling out most of its 539 screenings. What's your take? Did anyone out there catch 27 Dresses? Is this the film that shoots Heigl into the movie-star stratosphere?
