18 Again!

1988, Movie, PG, 100 mins

One of the many body-switch films that proliferated in 1987 and 1988, 18 AGAIN! features Burns as a well-to-do, young-at-heart owner of a successful company, and Schlatter as Burns's 18-year-old grandson, a callow freshman fraternity pledge who is abused by his would-be brothers. When Burns blows out the candles on a cake commemorating his 81st birthday, he wishes he could be 18 again. Next thing you know, he and his grandson have exchanged brains. An auto accident sends Burns's aged body to the hospital, but his mind has an 18-year-old body to strut around in, so Burns sets out to set his grandson's life straight while learning a few valuable lessons himself. Although the 92-year-old Burns wasn't on screen much, he is heard in voice-over throughout the film and brings his usual panache to the role. He is not, however, either particularly funny or affecting. Nor is anything else about this limp film. leave a comment
