A troop of Union soldiers, led by Williams, is transporting a gold shipment shortly after the end of the Civil War. Some Confederates under the command of Dexter are after the gold to help them make new starts when they return to their war-ravaged homes. Williams' troops are demoralized,
knowing they are protecting what they can't have, and Dexter must keep his men from turning into outlaws. This might have been an interesting psychological western, but the story is given a simple, heavy-handed treatment. The characterizations are stereotypes and plenty of shooting and action fill
up the time.
