12 Angry Men: Review

Accomplished stage and television director Sydney Lumet made his feature film debut with this blistering adapataion of Reginald Rose's play, all of which unfolds in a muggy New York City courtroom during the final hours of a murder trial. Though it now appears a bit anachronistic, this was a landmark film in its day, one which brought a new style to cinema. The teleplay-turned-movie made use of a single static set--an actual New York City jury room--and had a total of 365 separate takes, nearly all of them from different angles. Henry Fonda stars. When last we saw ad exec Angela Bower (Phenom's Judith Light) and her former housekeeper, Tony Micelli (Taxi and Family Law's Tony Danza), they were giving their relationship another shot after an incredibly long flirtation and at least one failed attempt. (Angela had moved to Iowa with ex-St. Louis Cardinals second-baseman Tony when he got a job coaching baseball, but had then moved back after jonesing for her old career.) If you're an optimist and old-fashioned romantic, then sure — consider them married.
