Lesbianism, adultery, and murder are all mixed up in this basically failed attempt to combine the talents of director Dassin and New Wave novelist Duras. Dassin's real-life wife, Mercouri, is cast as the alcoholic wife of Finch. The couple are traveling through Spain with their daughter and Schneider, who presumably (it is never stated) is lover to both Mercouri and the adulterous Finch.
